I was born in 1976, in Kolkata, India. My father's job as a geologist would take our family to different regions of India, from the arid plains of Gujarat to the hilly rainforests of Tripura; and from the lower himalayas in Dehradun to the seaside metropolis of Mumbai. The environment, then much more pristine than now, was easy to bond with and reflect upon. It was no surprise that as a child, thanks also to an academic environment at home, I developed a love of natural history. An early training in painting led to the deepening of this bond through observation and studies of nature in my sketchbooks.

As I grew older I began to condense my experiences to see the connectedness in the various forms of life. And struck by wanderlust, began to explore India by the time I went to engineering college in Mumbai. My photographic interest had begun in Dehradun and continued in Mumbai, with access to the college library expanding my horizons. I spent the ten years after graduating from college pursuing a Doctorate in the United States, studying Neuroscience. I photographed extensively, was exposed to an immense range of art in New York's galleries and museums, interacted with fellow artists and became deeply committed to photography.

In 2009 I left my career in the scientific establishment behind to pursue photography as my primary medium of personal expression. I am currently pursuing long term projects in India.
